Description: The treatment system at this site has changed several times. Dates are approximate. AMD emanates from both abandoned "punch mines" from early 1900s as well as surface mining conducted in the 1970s and 1980s. The original passive treatment was designed by Damariscotta and constructed in 1992. Two passive treatment systems were installed at the REM (Orcutt/Smail) site known as the North and South Systems. The system was redesigned around 2002 and construction took place sometime between 2003 and 2005 through the NRCS. The treatment system was then converted to an active lime slurry chemical treatment plant around 2015. Available historic data of the passive system has been kept, but is not included in the treatment loading data. Funding & cost information as of April 2022 is not correct and appears to only be related to the ~2004 passive system.
