Located approximately 4 miles west of Clearfield, the MON 30 discharge is a significant source of pollution that is degrading an unnamed tributary before its confluence with Montgomery Creek, west of the borough of Clearfield in Clearfield County. The acid mine drainage (AMD) emerges from a reclaimed surface mine site with numerous AMD seeps.

The Mon 30 AMD Passive Treatment System has been designed so that much of the AMD runoff is diverted into an equalization basin first. The equalization basin discharges into a vertical flow wetland (VFW) cell at elevation with a high-flow bypass spillway. The VFW cell has been lined with a 40 mil HDPE geomembrane liner (liner). The VFW discharges through an inline water level control into the settling basin. A liner has also been installed in the settling basin. The settling basin discharges into a constructed wetland through an overflow pipe. The constructed wetland discharges to the unnamed tributary through a riprap spillway.
