Description: The SL 142-1 passive system was constructed in 1970 through Operation Scarlift to treat an abandoned mine discharge from the Dunkirk Mine. The system included a series of baffles, flow diverters, and aeration trays, and a settling pond to help aerate the water and precipitate iron. This is one of the oldest known (if not first) AMD passive treatment system in Pennsylvania.
