Description: The system is referred to as an "Oxic" Limestone Drain only because it is not being captured at the source, but from a stream where oxygen is present in the water (similar to the Oneida 1 system in Schuylkill County). The system contains 25,000 cu. ft. (1,260 tons) of limestone in a 25 ft. wide by 260 ft. long by 5 ft. deep lined trench. The system replaces a damaged rotating limestone drum, but utilizes the existing intake. Funding for the project was provided by Lackawanna Watershed 2000 a cooperative effort by Lackawanna County and EPA Region 3. Some O&M is provided by the Lackawanna County Department of Parks and Recreation. The US ACOE Baltimore District are the landowners and the boroughs of Archbald and Jermyn provided property leases.
