Description: The Kalp passive system, also known as the Anna and Steve Gdosky Indian Creek Restoration Project treats one of the worst discharges (>40% pollution load) in the Indian Creek Watershed. The Kalp discharge emanates from the Melcroft #1 mine. The project was completed in two phases. The first phase included in-seam directional drilling to capture and convey the discharge. The original system cost about $3.4 million dollars. And additional $1.3 million was spent on rehabilitation activities completed from 2012-2014. Numerous funding partners have contributed to this project. The MWA estimates $24,000 is spent annually on monitoring and maintaining the system.
